Smith And Wesson 686-3 Serial Numbers

Okay... So here's the deal. I want to build a shotgun for my wife, but can't figure out what to do with the stock. I have a Miller Farmington Varmint stock, and I can get it at a decent price on ebay. The problem is that I don't know the age of the stock. I'm not sure if it's a Mil/Simps stock or not. Is there some way I can tell? The barrel is a well worn but never seen a re-calibration.25 barrel. It is a colt M series,.25, but has a S&W style locking block with a trigger. I know this is a bad/old problem. Just don't know how to solve it. Hi, Well... Let's see... The one you sent me, the little bit of research I did shows that a new stock would be about $700.00, but some are on sale for $200.00... And some are in the $300.00 to $400.00 range. So, in a nut shell, its out of my reach. As for the stock being old, I would guess from the metal it has not been sat in the sun for too long, and maybe the service life of the S&W gun, my guess is, is not that much, but less than 10,000 rounds, a few hundred. So, I don't think you would have any problems with it... Just remember to take the gun down and inspect it every so often, that is probably a good idea. If your in the Pacific Northwest, you may want to look into the Mossberg 690. Its a new, high capacity, semi automatic shotgun, but I would imagine you could buy used, or get parts for it. - The Simpson part that you have would be easy to check. It has a low tech spring loaded ejector, if you press on the upper part of the receiver or the ejector, it will make a click, and if it is working, you have a Simpsin. - The colt and miller parts are easy to tell. Any miller is easy to tell by looking. Your colt has a locking block which is a miller design. If the locking block is old, the colt design may be newer, or vice versa. I've read the posts on these topics, and have decided that
